About WritingFix: WritingFix's Bibliography
Building a 6-Trait "Mentor Text" Library? Check out these books, which all link to free-to-use lessons!

Four Trait-inspired bibliographies to choose from on this page:

Teachers & Librarians: At many of the schools where we directly work in Northern Nevada, the librarians have repeatedly asked for us to build this page. Librarians understand the value of having lots of books to help show students what good writing looks and sounds like. Librarians also appreciate that our website features free-to-use quality lessons that showcase some of the best picture and chapter books out there. And...Librarians understand the value of a bibliography. So...in 2008, we built this on-line bibliography.

From this page, you can study the list of books and authors we feature in this site's lessons and prompts. You can also access the lessons and prompts directly by clicking on the lesson link in parantheses.

Propose your own picture book-inspired lesson to be posted at WritingFix! Below are our two templates for picture book-inspired lessons. Here is our template for K-3rd grade teachers' lessons. Here is our template for 4th-12th grade teachers' lessons. If we end up using your lesson at WritingFix, we will send you any two of the NNWP's Print Resources as our way of saying thank-you for sharing your ideas with the thousands of teachers who use this website.

Books Cited in the NNWP's Going Deep with 6 Trait Language Guide
(alphabetical by title)

In 2006, the Northern Nevada Writing Project (sponsor of this free-to-use website) published a 196-page resource for Northern Nevada teachers: The Going Deep with 6 Trait Language Guide. The guide features trait-specific lessons and resources designed to help all students use 6 trait language better as they explore the act of writing. Many of the guide's lessons and resources cite awesome picture and chapter books as examples of powerfully crafted text to show and discuss with students. Many Northern Nevada school libraries made sure they had all cited books from the guide available to their teachers.

When the NNWP began selling copies of this resource from its website to teachers outside of Northern Nevada as a fund-raiser for WritingFix's growth, we received dozens and dozens of e-mails from teachers asking us to publish an easy-to-refer-to bibliography for the guide.

Below, you will find the bibliography we eventually created. It is organized by trait, and if you hover over the links, you can check each book's availability at Amazon.com.

Only two books listed on this WritingFix's bibliography page cannot be ordered through Amazon: one of those two books is the Northern Nevada Writing Project's Going Deep with 6 Trait Language Guide.

The 196-page guide can be ordered from the NNWP's website by clicking here.

All proceeds made from selling this guide are invested into the WritingFix website to fund its future growth.

Books Cited in the NNWP's Six by Six Guide
(alphabetical by title)

In December 2008, the Northern Nevada Writing Project (sponsor of this free-to-use website) published a new resource for Northern Nevada teachers: The Six by Six Guide: Thirty-six trait-focused writing lessons designed by kindergarten and 1st grade teachers.

The guide cites many mentor texts in its thirty-six lessons. Soon, we will list all the mentor texts cited in this guide on this page. Check back with us soon.

Only two books listed on this WritingFix's bibliography page cannot be ordered through Amazon: one of those two books is the Northern Nevada Writing Project's Six by Six Guide...Traits Writing for Little Writers.

The guide can be ordered from the NNWP's website by clicking here.

All proceeds made from selling this guide are invested into the WritingFix website to fund its future growth.
