Three-Sentence Overview of this Lesson:

After listening to lyrics from artists such as Bryan Adams and Soft Cell, as well as viewing scenes from A Knight’s Tale and The Wedding Singer, students will look at relationships and love in their lives while making new connections to chivalry. Courtly love and chivalry was both important and necessary in the Middle Ages--a time when society was rebuilding and trying to push forward after a dark period. Students will have a choice to develop their own poetry or a free write response drawing upon knowledge of Middle Age chivalry and the perceptions of love from their own reality. 6-Trait Overview for this Lesson:

The focus of this lesson is on voice; students will express their emotions, dreams, and reality through their writing. The supporting trait for this lesson will be that of idea development; students will create a vision for their poetry or write a free response essay after listening to several artists lyrics and watching two different video clips.
