Three-Sentence Overview of this Lesson:
Inspired by "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)," this lesson asks students to think about memorable writing--writing that has, in some way, touched them personally. Students will make multiple drafts of simple advice in order to make it more memorable. Using other works as models, students will focus on sentence fluency, idea development and presentation as they create a final draft. Teachers: Click here to see the entire lesson plan.

6-Trait Overview for this Lesson:
Students will move through multiple drafts focusing on presentation (the +1 trait), but the model text began as a newspaper article and evolved through various forms of media, and the students will model this evolution of an idea as the explore idea development, this lesson's focus trait. The support trait of this lesson is sentence fluency; by composing multiple drafts for different reasons, students will really get a chance to think about their style.
