Persuasive and Emotional Monologues

convincing something scary or problematic in the world to leave your narrator alone

Student Writer Instructions:

A monologue is used when a character speaks a whole speech to himself in a story.

In My Brother Dan’s Delicious, Joey tries to talk himself through a scary situation...being alone in the house. His funny monologue allows us to “see” inside his head as he tries to solve being home alone...with a possible monster...and Joey doesn't want to be eaten.

Today, you will be writing about a character (or yourself) being in an every day location...but having a special problem to talk himself or herself through. You will be writing a character's monologue...like Joey's monologue in My Brother Dan’s Delicious. You will try to convince the problem or scary thing to leave your character alone!

For this writing activity, you will press the first button to choose an every day location.

Pressing the second button will give you a problem your character (or you) will have to face.

Your writer's challenge: Write about how solving the problem in a way that allows us to “see” inside your character's head. Make your words sound like a real person with real emotions! Be persuasive! Good luck!
