Three-Sentence Overview of this Lesson:

Inspired by Frank Keating's beautiful picture book about Theodore Roosevelt, students will organize and write a presidential report that is inspired by famous quotations said by the president they have researched. Students will, first, gather quotations said by a president, then research circumstances that would explain why the president said that during his lifetime. Each page of the student's report will feature a quotation and an explanation (in the student's own words) on why the president probably said that. 6-Trait Overview for this Lesson:

The focus trait in this writing assignment is idea development; student writers are to locate appropriate research and transform it into their own words for this report.   The support trait in this assignment is organization; students will think about sequencing and introductions and conclusions as they write drafts for each part of their reports.
