Stay in Touch!
On occasion, I do revise or update a lesson here at WritingFix. I also add new student samples to many posted lessons. Here are ways to receive updates and keep in touch:

Mentor Texts: WritingFix's Lesson Bibliography
Building a 6-trait "mentor text" library? All books cited on this page link to free-to-use lessons!

A Bibliography for Teachers & Librarians: There are a lot of published books that share lists of mentor texts for teaching writing; the book at right is one example. This page at WritingFix--we believe--is much more thorough than just about every book in print we've found. We've spent almost ten years creating the list of books below.

During our Northern Nevada teacher workshops, we ask teachers to bring favorite mentor texts and share how they use them during their writing instruction. Some of the ideas proposed by teacher participants become online lessons here at WritingFix. This page contains a list of the mentor texts for which we currently have on-line lessons and prompts that you can access. You can also access the lessons and prompts by clicking on the lesson link in the parentheses.

Use the Amazon links below and WritingFix benefits! As most of you know, WritingFix is a completely free site to use, and we plan to keep it that way. It does, however, cost the NNWP about four thousand dollars annually to keep this website up and running, and you can help us defray those costs the next time you shop at Amazon. All of the books cited on this page link to the Amazon site, where you can purchase the book new or from sellers, should you really happen to like one of the lessons we feature. Here's the deal...if you use the links on this page to enter Amazon and then begin purchasing anything, WritingFix will receive a very small percentage of the sale; those proceeds are invested back in the site and keep it free to use. Any time you use Amazon in the future, we humbly request that you start your shopping experience with one of the links on this page. You don't even need to buy the specific book this page links to; as long as you enter Amazon using any link at WritingFix, then our website will benefit.

Two Additional Mentor TextBibliographies to Check Out

In Northern Nevada, the NNWP sponsors annual collaborative projects among teachers. The goal of these collaborative projects is to create a print resource that can be used in future workshops and inservice classes.

The two most popular guides that have been created through these collaborations are available for purchase from the NNWP's Publications Page. If you'd like to see which mentor texts are cited in either of these guides, click the link below the pictures of the guides' covers:

We are Sponsored by our Users!

WritingFix is a free-to-use education website that once had a sponsor but now relies on public help to remain advertisement free. In 2015, we held a "pledge drive" and secured enough funds to keep this website active until 2020, but we are always accepting donations to keep us up and running beyond 2020.

Have you signed up yet?

Hey teachers! Each month, we e-mail one of WritingFix's best lessons to members of our "Writing Lesson of the Month" Network.
